The electronic filter-life indicator is useful because it gives owners a simple maintenance reminder. But it cannot know every source-water change. Heavy sediment, unusual chlorine load, high TDS and high household volume can shorten real filter life.
For the membrane, the most useful trend is rejection performance. Compare feed-water TDS with product-water TDS over time rather than reacting to one isolated reading. If the product reading rises materially and prefilters are current, the membrane may be aging or another RO component may need attention.

CF, CB and RO cartridges have different jobs and different service lives. Replacing all three every six or twelve months may feel simpler, but it can discard a membrane with substantial useful life remaining.
A better approach is to follow the model-specific schedule, respond to performance changes and keep a simple replacement log. That makes it easier to notice if a cartridge starts lasting much less time than before, which can signal a change in feed-water conditions.
When continuing to buy filters stops making sense
Routine cartridges are expected ownership costs. But if an older G3P800 also needs a pump, faucet, electronics or other major hardware repair at the same time as a full filter set, compare the total repair bill with the cost of a current replacement system.
