GPD is a production rating, not a universal measure of how much system you need.
A 50 GPD under-sink unit can be entirely adequate for drinking and cooking even though a 600 GPD tankless system has a much larger headline number. The useful comparison is how quickly you need purified water at the faucet, how much storage is available, how many users draw water at once and whether the system must recover quickly after heavy use.

For tankless and higher-flow systems, electricity, pumps, sensors and proprietary components can increase complexity. For whole-house or commercial systems, pretreatment and storage design can matter as much as the RO rack itself.
