Marketing phrases such as “tested to NSF standards” are not the same as finished-product certification. If lead, PFAS or another health-related contaminant is important, verify that exact claim for the exact cartridge.

Use Samsung’s current model guidance as the baseline, but actual life depends on water quality and usage. Heavy use or unusual sediment can reduce useful life, while low use does not automatically mean a cartridge should be left in service indefinitely.
If taste, odor or flow changes unexpectedly, inspect the cartridge and source water rather than waiting for the calendar. A refrigerator indicator is useful for timing, but it is not a direct contaminant sensor.

Choose OEM when you want the simplest fit decision and original evidence package. Choose a compatible when the exact model is certified, the fit list is clear and the annual savings are meaningful.
Avoid anonymous listings that provide no model-level certification and no clear manufacturer identity. For repeat drinking-water purchases, traceability and seller reliability are worth more than the lowest possible unit price.
